I'm confused!

Hi all. Please help me with pattern instructions…i’m soooo confused. I’m busy with the back, got stuck and proceeded to the left front and now i’m stuck again.
With the back: shape shoulders and back neck - bind of 5st, work to marker, join another hank of colour being used and bind off center 11sts, dropping markers, work to end. Working both sides at once (HOW?), bind off 5sts at beg of next row, then 6sts at beg of the next 4 rows. AT THE SAME TIME (?? what does that mean), bind off 5 sts at each next edge twice.

Left Front: work in pat st until piece measures 12.5" from beg, end on WS.
Dec Row (RS): K1, K2 tog, work to end. Rep this inc every 1" 3 times more. AT THE SAME TIME (??), when piece measures 13.5" from beg to end.
Now, how do i repeat this every 1" 3 times if i’m only starting when work measures 12.5"? Its going to be longer than 13.5"??
Thank you everyone:muah:

You should have some sts on your needle (R shoulder), a gap where you BO stitches in the middle (neck) and then some more sts on your needle (L shoulder).

Each “set/group” of sts should be attached to its own working yarn (because you joined a second ball).

Work the first set of sts according to directions with its yarn. Drop the yarn, pick up the second yarn and work the second set of sts according to directions with its ball of yarn. End of row. Swap needles between your hands and work back now on the next row. Repeat.

Alternatively, you could do ALL of the directions/rows for the R shoulder sts first (i.e. don’t drop the yarn, just keep doing this side) THEN do all of the directions/rows for the L shoulder.

You can’t bind off at the end of the row, so they’re having you shape the shoulders and neck (at the same time) by binding off the specified number of stitches when they are at the beginning of the rows.

Bind off the shoulder edges when they are the first stitches on your needles (one side with be the rs and one the ws) and bind off the neck edges when they are at the beginning edge.

If you have a link to the pattern (or name of it), than always helps, especially when you have a question about the length.

“Left Front: work in pat st until piece measures 12.5” from beg, end on WS.
Dec Row (RS): K1, K2 tog, work to end. Rep this inc every 1" 3 times more. AT THE SAME TIME (??), when piece measures 13.5" from beg to end.

On the Left Front, when the front measusres 12.5" you’re going to decrease by K1, k2tog at the shoulder edge. This will be repeated at 13.5"measured from the beg, 14.5" measured from the beg, and again at 15.5" measured from the beg. The “at the same time” directions mean that when you do the 2nd decrease, at 13.5" there’ll also be some shaping, probably at the neck edge. These two sets of directions, at the shoulder and neck edge overlap.
