I'm a newbie: help me read this pattern please?

Hi, I need help with this pattern. I’m a newbie at knitting, this is only my second project.:frog:

(BTW, this is a beginner’s lace) Pattern:
CO 7 stitches
Row 1: K2, k2tog, yo, k2, yo twice, k1-9 stitches on needle.

Questions:

  1. There are only 7 stitches, right? I’m not sure how row1’s pattern fits into 7 stitches… :??
  2. What does “k1-9 stitches on needle” mean? Do you choose a number between 1 and 9, or what? >_<

You’re starting with 7, but will increase by 2 stitches by the end of the row.

The[I] -9 [/I]at the end of the row means that you should have 9 stitches when you’ve finished.

k2 uses 2
k2 tog uses 2
yo adds but doesn’t use any
k2 uses 2
yo twice adds 2 but uses none
k1 uses 1

7 used
9 for next row.
