If it hadnt happened here

I would have never believed it. My 14 yr old sat on her size 11 needles earlier tonight, and impaled herself through the buttock into her hip. No serious damage, thank goodness. We just got home from the ER a bit ago. There was 3 1/2 inches of needle in her butt cheek. Don’t sit on your needles lol. I can laugh now. I told her she was going to be the “butt” of bad jokes for years.

OUCH! Poor girl. You say there’s no serious damage at least. That’s good. Speedy recovery to her!

Once it was out (the worst part I think), she was much better. Everyone on duty in the ER that could find an excuse to come in to see it did, though. Then it was more wounded pride than anything. They did a CT scan just to make sure it wasn’t worse than it looked.

OMG! How on earth did that happen?! Those are pretty good size needles so I’m surprised she did t see them. Hope she’ll be okay.

Jan, she’s bruised and sore but she’s fine. She’ll be sitting gingerly for a few days though! She has a bad habit of just throwing herself down on the couch without looking, and I’m sure that’s what she did this evening. I’m sure she’ll be putting her needles on the table instead of leaving them on the couch too!

Ah yes, the throwing yourself onto furniture trick. Glad that she’s ok. I never would have believed it possible.

Yikes!

SIZE 11? To be impelled is bad enough when the item is thin, but size 11 needles? OUCH! poor child. Hug her for me. Thank goodness it was the fleshy buttocks and not part of the more serious stuff. That could have been a very serious injury for sure.

I wouldn’t have either, salmonmac, if I hadn’t seen it myself. She’s very sore this morning, but that’s to be expected.

Yikes is mild compared to what I said, Ingrid!! I’ve got 5 kids, and we’ve had our share of injuries, but this one was about the worst!

Lighting57, I’ll be sure to hug her for you. She was extremely lucky, it could have been so much worse. They did the CT scan to make sure it hadn’t punctured her abdominal cavity. She’ll be more careful from now on, I hope.

Glad she’s OK. I ALWAYS put my knitting on the dining room table because I can see myself doing the same thing! Tell her we’re thinking about her.

Thanks, catlvr. I think she will be more careful in the future!

Oh my goodness Janis! I just read about your daughter - poor, poor dear. I hope she has a speedy recovery, even sitting must be painful.

Thanks, Claire. She is extremely sore, she says it hurts no matter what she does. She’s also on massive amounts of antibiotics, and they make her sick to her stomach. Sigh. Such is my crazy life!!

Poor kid. I hope she heals well and quickly. We try to get them to not do the teenage flop but they will anyhow. My DD has asked me how she lived long enough to make me Gramma. She may be lucky they weren’t smaller needles that would have been sharper and penetrated deeper, more easily. Will she get to be on a TV show? You know, those weird visits to the hospital and stuff.

We thought the same thing about the smaller needles, GG. I was joking about trying to get in touch with some of those shows, she didn’t see the humor in it at all. I’d still like to try though. Not sure if it is gory enough or serious enough, though. It is definitely strange enough, though. The ER staff said it was the strangest thing they had ever seen.

My GD was doing something once, tipping back in a chair she was sitting in maybe, and wouldn’t stop when I told her to. I finally asked her, would you like to have to go to the ER with that up your butt? She quit. I thought it was a joke, maybe not so much. Kids. We love 'em anyhow.

My 22 year old has been in the trauma room at the local ER 4 times now I think? Possibly just 3. Once for a bicycle wreck (they thought he had lacerated his liver, he hadn’t), once for trying to cut off his finger, once when he rolled his truck, and after a motorcycle accident. 4 times. I keep telling him he isn’t a cat, he doesn’t have 9 lives!!

Give your daughter hugs for me. That had to really hurt!!!

This reminds me of when my daughter was in college she was running from the car to the house she was renting on campus I the rain and stepped on something that went all the way through her running shoe.
She tried taking her shoe off but it wouldn’t come off and thought she’d stepped on a nail. Had a friend take her to the ER… When they looked at the bottom of the shoe they couldn’t see anything, but also couldn’t get the shoe off. Took an Xray that showed a piece of something stuck in her foot. They finally removed it and it was a stick that had gone between the ridges in her shoe and into her foot.
She also was on antibiotics for awhile.
No one in the ER had ever seen that before either.
Kids, gotta love em.

Oh, my goodness!! Sounds like something that would happen here!!

Good lord, that’ll make you wince! My eyes are watering just thinking about it, poor love. Makes you wonder how we all got through our teenage years, and I bet the needles will get a bit more respect now!
