If I was going to buy one knitting book... what should I buy

I am ordering something from Amazon, and since they have free shipping… I’m wanting to get a knitting book. I’m not sure what to buy, I’ve searched for knitting and found tons of books… not sure what is any good. I’d love to have a book that would be good to teach me things as well as have patterns in it. I love all of the online resources, but when I’m not at home, it would be cool to have a book to refer to. I’m a new knitter, BTW.

Knitting In Plain English, by Maggie Righetti.

no pics, there are only line drawings, but she is funny, very human (and understands that we are, too!), and VERY easy to understand.

GabriellesMom, I don’t know if you’re new to knitting like I am, but I just got Book 1: The Knit Stitch inspiration & instruction by Sally Melville, and I’m lovin’ it! It has all the basic techniques with great photos and instruction. It has already helped a lot with fixing mistakes :blush: and it has some basic patterns for all types of things for every one you’d want to knit for (Einsten jacket/coat is so kewl!) and it’s all in knit :smiley: I got it at Joann’s with a 40% off coupon and next I want her The Purl Stitch book. :x:
