I think socks are out to get me

I’ve got this beautiful yarn:

I’ve got the lovely Jaywalker pattern, which I loooooooove.

Why am I ending up with this monstrosity?

:wall:

That is beautiful yarn and a beautiful photograph of it as well. Hmmmm, every yarn doesn’t seem destined to every purpose. That seems to be puddling up in some not so wonderful ways all right. :eyes: You can either keep going and hope they grow on you (the socks look well done), or use the yarn for something else. Or… you might try one of those ideas of knit a row or two with one ball (or end of a ball if you only have one) and then switch and see if that helps.

I’m starting to wonder if I’m just not destined to like socks made with this colorway. This is my FOURTH attempt at making socks with this darned yarn. But I told my hubby yesterday that I think if I rip THIS out, I won’t ever use the yarn again, ahahaha

I’ve come to the conclusion that stiped yarn just isn’t for socks (at least for me). So it’s not you, it’s the yarn. If you hate it, frog it and use it for something else. I love the colorway! See if you can find something someone made with it on Ravelry and get ideas from that.

The colors are gorgeous. I would probably frog it, put it away for a couple of months and look into making into something else. When I first saw the colors I thought it would make a great spring bolero or some other type of lightweight jacket.

I have some great sock yarn I bought that no matter what pattern I try, I just don’t like how the colors pool so I’ve given up on it altogether.

I personally would have bought and loved that yarn too. Maybe you should just give up, frog, and send the yarn to me. :roflhard:

I know you’ve looked at the pooling thread on the Ravelry forums - one thing I noticed in there is that pooling changes drastically between the foot and the leg. I know it’s a lot of work, but it might be worth a shot, since the foot is generally in shoes.

Yeah, that’s what I’m hoping for. Just keep knitting, just keep knitting…

Maybe it’s just me, but I like the randomness of the socks and they look great to me!

Well thank you! They’re starting to grow on me. They’re now ankle-length (finished the heels early this morning while watching a movie :teehee:), and I think the pooling will be a little less dramatic on the legs. I think I’m going to like these when they’re done!

[COLOR=“DarkOrchid”]Hmmmm…
I have to confess that I don’t see the problem. I think the socks are looking good.
Also you haven’t finished them so you have no idea how it will all come out in the end.
I think the way the patterning is on the heels is great… the heels stand out nicely. I’m wondering if the rest of the socks, if you finish knitting them, will make your heels make sense to you.
What have you got to lose?
If you still don’t like them… you can always wear them around the house and it’s another sock experience under your belt…

Glad things are looking up a bit! Keep us posted, I’m curious to see what the leg part is going to look like!

The socks are done!
