I nned advice

I am kniiting a Debbie Bliss pattern for a baby hat. Before the instructions to shape the crown there is instructions to"dec 4 [dec 1 inc 2] evenly spaced across row. Why am I increasing and decreasing on the same row?

Welcome to the forum!
It’s likely that your pattern has instructions for 3 different sizes. Work decreases or increases approximately evenly across the row depending on the size you’re making (1st, 2nd or 3rd).
What is the name of the pattern?

Thank you for your reply. The pattern is Flower Picot Hat.I am working on the 6-12 mths. I have 79 stitches for the main body of the hat… Going by this I am supposed to have 78 stitches after this row.I might be having a mental block and missing something totally obvious.

Is the 6-12 month size the second size? The direction would then be to dec 1 stitch which would fit with your stitch number (79 sts decreased to 78).
Just k2together or p2together somewhere on the next row.

Yes it is the second size. I definitely over thought that. Thank you so much.
