I knit my mom a scarf a while ago, nothing fancy. I made it out of Patons Divine and Brilliant and she just sent me a check for $100! :woohoo:
So of course I am looking to buy some more yarn but I am trying to be good and buy yarn for actual projects. My next one is two apple (http://lilknitofthisandthat.blogspot.com/2007/04/apple-surprise.html) washcloths for my daughters teachers but I am having one heck of a time finding a nice red cotton. Knitpicks has Cotlin which would be great but the Moroccan Red that I want will not be in until May 31 and that is cutting it too close.
I have looked all over for the red and for some reason it is evading me. I checked out WEBS, Smiley’s, Little Knits and for some reason if there are cottons, they are more of a salmony type of color, not the apple red I am looking for.
I went into a LYS that I just found (about 45-60 min. drive) and look all around there and was ignored by the older ladies there. I think that even if I would have found the perfect red cotton, I still would have walked out with nothing.
Anyone know of a good red cotton that would work for washcloths?
I know it’s 50/cotton and 50/actrylic, but would this work?
Ebay
I have some Peaches N Cream in red. I got it at Hobby Lobby or Michaels. I don’t know if you want to go that route or not, but I know it is available.

I was going to suggest the Tahki as well - it’s the main color in the sweater I’m working now. I personally wouldn’t use it for dischcloths though - too nice!
Thanks for all the suggestions, I found that Joann.com has the closest red cotton (Lion Brand Poppy Red) I have found so far. And I am also buying some fingering blue for a baby blanket along with the needles for it. I am getting a few more items I have been looking for, all paid for with the money my mom paid for the scarf!
Mercerized cotton makes terrible dishcloths - the water takes forever to absorb! Tahki Cotton Classic and Patons Grace are both mercerized…
I was at Joann’s last night and saw some red Lion Brand cotton - it was a really pretty shade of red. That might be the one you’re talking about.
Try knittingwarehouse.com. They have Cottonease at a great price.
You can get peaches and cream cotton yarn at walmart for like $1-something! You might have to search a bit for it b/c i overlooked it the first time i saw it! :teehee:
The Walmart here in Clinton only had neutral colors, no reds. Not really sure why it was so hard to find a red cotton (besides Knitpicks Moroccan Red avail. May 31!).
I have Cottonease but the color I think is called Terrcotta so I don’t think it would work for a apple washcloth but thanks for the suggestion!
I ended up buying some Lion Cotton online from Joann.com. And because I spent more than $35 I get free upgrade so it will be here Thursday! :cheering:
