I have 360 yards of Burgundy Fun( red/black). I want to make a shrug to turn tanks into teacher friendly garb. there MUST be sleeves, at least mid upper arm. I am just not sure if this is a good yarn for it and if I have enough. I would wear about a large unless it runs small! Any suggestions and links and encouragement will be greatly appreciated.
I don’t have a pattern for a shrug but you could knit a rectangle and seam the small sides and try it on to see how far to sew them up.
Also please check your private message box. I sent you a message. My new camera arrived today.
What weight is the yarn? Here’s a few ideas till you let me know.
I think this one may need more yarn, but I thought I’d include it.
Those are cute Jan! I’ll probably be adding them to my to do list myself.:teehee:
I can’t tell the weight! lol it came unmarked in a swap. It’s weird. it sorta looks ww at first but it’s kinda…flat. I have a pic I think. lol it’s also…bumpy. like a bulky yarn but…flat and thinnner. wow, that is an ingenious and articulate post. I just don’t SEEM to have much but I’m quite inexperienced. lol
here. hope this works!
The picture with the ball is ALL I have. The swatch you see in that picture is show up close in the last one. it’s knitted on 8’s and I knit pretty tight. lol I’m working out of that though so this isn’t as bad as some things I’ve made. I don’t know if any of this helps. I’m reluctant to pick a pattern because I badly want to wear it and don’t want to get almost done and be out of yarn. I can’t buy more, don’t know what it is really or where I would get it! Thanks again so much! back to homework and the anticipation of something beautiful to keep my arms and shoulders warm!
Well from what I can see it looks like a fine boucle, but I don’t know. The best way to tell is to knit with it and check the gauge.
umm…silly inexperienced question… how do I do that?
How do you knit with it? :?? Or… oh you mean how do you check gauge? Knit a swatch at about 4x4 inches. I found this so maybe it’ll help.
This is an important step to learn when knitting garments. Gauge isn’t always perfect or right, but it’s a good first step.
i mean…how do you find the gague of the YARN? I always make the pattern swatch to make sure they match but I’ve never found the gague of YARN.
If you don’t know the gauge of the yarn you still have to knit a swatch and count the stitches. You can use this as a guide.
When you know about how many stitches per inch (or over 4 inches) then you have a better idea. Knitting the swatch will also let you know ahead of time which needle is best for the yarn and therefore your garment.
