I need pattern suggestions for a hat for this unique yarn

I’m finally going to knit something for myself! I splurged on this gorgeous yarn on my birthday but am unsure about a good pattern for it. I’d really like to find something that will highlight the qualities of the yarn and not detract from it; I’m thinking something simple would work best with a “busy” yarn like this? I’m not good at envisioning these things!

TIA.

I think something simple as well would work. It’s a beautiful yarn!

I fully agree with Jan-- simple is best so that the yarn gets shown off, not the stitches. This pattern is just a ribbed brim and then stockinette stitch for the crown. You could do less ribbing if you want more of the stockinette stitch to show, or even eliminate it altogether and just let the edge roll, which all stockinette st does. http://www.coatsandclark.com/Crafts/Knitting/Projects/Accessories/LW1268+Gotcha+Covered+1.htm.

My friend is getting ready to start this hat from knitty (urchin).
I think it’s so cute and might really compliment your beautiful and unique yarn

I agree something simple … rolled brim, spiraled decrease top … like a pillbox hat. I would also vote for cinnamon girl’s suggestion - that is a great hat, and would look awesome with that beautiful yarn!

I agree with the suggestion of Urchin. I made Urchin yesterday with some Colinette Prism I had left over from another project. Don’t know what gauge your yarn is though. I knit the hat on 10.5 needles. It is a very clever pattern! I wore my hat all day today.

Thanks for the input! Urchin looks lovely, but I’m not sure it’ll work with my yarn–it seems to be a really different gauge. I haven’t swatched yet, but my yarn looks like a heavy worsted.

Also, Urchin looks like it might be too short for me; I tend to get annoyed with hats that don’t come down far enough on my head. I think my head is sort of long and narrowly-shaped.

Boy, I ask for help and then get all picky!

Ok–one last plea for help in coming up with pattern ideas. I’ve found a few I like, but I still have a hard time picturing what might look best with my yarn. For any of you who are good with picturing these things, what do you think of these:

Choice 1

Choice 2

Choice 3

I’m leaning toward Choice 3, but just wondering if it’s too “busy” for my “busy” yarn.

Thank you! :muah:

Those are all really beautiful patterns. Knitty winter just went live, and there is a head topper on there called Quanta. It is really beautiful. Sorry to put in another choice. And I love your yarn.

I like your choice 2 but I do think some swatching of your yarn would be very advisable. Do a few repeats of the pattern and see what you like.
