I need help with scarf!

I am knitting a cable scarf. But I want to make a 'slit" in it so the one half can be put into the other half thru the slit. I am not following a pattern so I was wondering how long should the scarf be before I make the slit? I was wondering if one third of the way is a good place to put it? I am going to make the slit horizontally since I think that will be the easiest way. Another thing…how many stitches should I bind off for the slit?? Are there any rules? This scarf will not be long…just a few inches past my neck.

I’m knitting with Kathmandu DK which is 85% Merino Wook, 10% Silk and 5% Cashmere.

My LYS lady wore one and I really liked it. She said she doesn’t have a pattern for it so I am knitting one from “memory”. :XX: :XX:

Does anyone have any “suggestions”?? Thanks so much!

If you go to www.knittingpatterncentral.com , and look for ‘keyhole scarf’, you should be able to find some patterns for a guideline.

Ingrid, thank you very much!! That helps! :XX:
