I am making a sweater that is all one piece. I am at the point where I need to cast on stitches that will become the arms and don’t exactly know what to do. Do I use another ball of yarn and cast on with it? I can’t figure out how to use the attached yarn to cast on more stitches if that is what I am supposed to do. It specifically says cast on not increase. Thanks for anyone that can answer me fairly quickly so I can get back to this project.

I usually use a cable cast on for stuff like that. I think a knitted cast on would be okay too (they’re actually pretty similar but cable is supposed to give you a firmer edge, I think). Amy has videos for both here. You can skip the part about making a slip knot first since you’re just adding to your existing knitting.
Oh, I just thought of something else. If you want to be really clever, you could do a provisional cast on instead – then you will have live stitches to knit into later instead of having to pick up and knit from the cast on. (Okay, this is probably too much information, isn’t it? One of the above should work fine.)
Thanks, Jane. Right after I posted I saw the get started tab and the cast on section and found what I could use. Of course, being left handed I had to reverse everything, but in this instance, it was pretty easy! Thanks again for you help and off I go! xxx
