Well it was bound to happen eventually, I’m knitting a sweater with three colours in the round. I’m about 10 cm after closing the arm holes, and I just tried it on. Since I cannot purl with more than one colour I did not test the gauge so guess what: I’m at 24 stiches instread of 20. It will be really tight. I wondering how much it will strech when I wet block it? Or if I should unravel it all and start over with a larger knitting needle. Happy for your advise. Or support.
I’m off gauge - Should I start over?
Very nice knitting!
How about giving it a quick wash and block now, while it is on waste yarn. Stranded knitting can relax when washed for the first time, so it’s worth trying.
It will mean, however, that your yarn will be quite crinkly if you have to frog.
Thank you! It sounds like it’s worth a try… if the yarn crinkles, would it help to wash it after unraveling?
Beautiful knitting, it’s a shame the gauge isn’t right for the size needed.
Personally I’d frog it and start again, it always feels horrible just before frogging but it can feel much better right after it’s done and you know you’re setting off to make something in a size and drape you’ll be happier with.
Have you seen these methods for fake swatching in the round? There are 2 methods here, maybe worth a trial with your changed needle size?
If you block your sweater so far you could also knit and block a swatch with the fake in the round method on a bigger needle and then you can compare the gauges and how the fabric moves and feels when they are side by side. A comparison might help you make the decision, or feel better about, frogging, or not frogging.
Yes, you can wash it or steam it. It should come up nicely – just a little bit of extra work.
