just a quick question how long do you think average knitter would take to knit a 51cm x 51cm square using 8ply wool and knitting in garter stitch 64 rows and 4mm needles . im doing this for a charity and it took me 2-1/2 hours to 3 hours. i was quiet surprised. how long do you think you would take.
How many sts did you cast on at the beginning?? Are you saying you thought it took you too long or too short a time?

thanks for answering i cast on 40st 8ply wool and knit 76 rows for my knitting tension thats what it takes for 51cm x 51cm square or 20inches by 20inches knitting needles used 4mm . i couldnt believe it took me 2-1/2 hours to 3 hrs for one square i was wanting me to be doing it quicker. i was thinking i must be slow knitter and was wondering what did you think the time would take. i know everyone is different, i thought it took too long. but im still going to be knitting the squares as its for a charity
As you said @rosknitter, everyone is different. There are so many variables that come into play that it can vary from one knitting session to another even for a given individual. There’s the obvious factors like the type of yarn and needles. (I find I knit faster with my ChiaGoos than I do with my Knitter’s Pride.) But just as importantly, perhaps even more so, are your physical surroundings and how you’re feeling, both mentally and physically. We often don’t realize what a huge difference those factors can make. Try to let your thoughts go and just relax into the rhythm of knitting. I bet as you get further into the project you’ll find your speed naturally increasing.
Btw, I applaud you for continuing on despite finding it to be more of a time commitment than expected (or perhaps wanted). ![]()
I don’t think that’s too long at all! For 40 sts and 76 rows that would take me a long time too!!
And for what it’s worth, we’re not into knitting as any type of contest or race! However long it takes you is the right time. Sounds like you are enjoying yourself and that’s important too!!!
