I have a pattern for a vintage vest but I am unsure of this part in the pattern. The back at the shape armholes , started with 84 decreased 3 next 2 rows 78 STS now not sure what to do for the rest after that

Hello
What is the name/number of your pattern?

You will need to place 2 markers on the needle, 5 sts from each edge
5 - 68 - 5
Then for the next section you will work decreases inside the markers on the right side rows and work without decreases on the wrong side rows
5 sts seed stitch, marker, dec, centre sts from the chart, dec, marker, 5 sts seed stitch
This is given in detail on armhole dec row, call that row 1.
Dec on rows 1 3 5 7 9
That’s 5 dec rows in total. 10 sts decreased.
68 sts remain (5 - 58 - 5).

Then maintain the pattern until the given measurement.

I hope this helps
Let us know how you get on.
