I have a new question

I have this yarn forever. What could I knit with this yarn , something simple I would prefer
here is a picture of it and I have about nine of them.

100% cotton, dk weight, you probably have appr. 1400 yds.

I think all of these projects are made with this yarn.

I might make a shawl if it were mine. I like them for cold days when even with the heat on I just feel chilled. I think I’d avoid cables or more than two stitch decreases because cotton can be hard to work with.

Where do I find patterns for shawls using this yarn ?

Ravelry is a good place to look for patterns. Here’s a search for shawl, cotton, dk. You can make other selections to change the search parameters. It’s not a requirement that you only use a pattern specifying cotton yarn.

What sort of thing did you want to make? Sweater? Top? Shawl? Blanket?

I just made a men’s size sweater for my son with a bit less than this amount of yarn, so you have enough for a sweater, depending on size and style.
I used cotton, the stutch definition is really good.
As GG said some cottons can be hard to work with, I have had some before give me hand ache but some have been dream to work with . The cotton I used for the last sweater splits easily and I wouldn’t want to do a detailed lace with it but the stitch pattern I used was created by floats across 2 sts on the right side. Very effective.

I usually need to swatch a few different things to get a feel for a yarn and what it wants to be. See what stitches it is suitable for. No point fighting splitting or stiff yarn for a pattern that has a lot of decreases as it wouldn’t be enjoyable. But I have other cotton I made a lace pattern top with and it was great.

I have been knitting shawls with my cotton. For my table at the market.

Each one lovelier than the last! Beautiful work.

Wow! I particularly like the second one because it’s got purple. They’re all beautiful.
