I do not understand my pattern

So i am knitting this cardigan. i am starting the right front piece and i think i messed up because this doesnt make sense.

my problem is where is says “1st row” because after doing everything up to the hem i am on a knit row, not a purl. the picture of the completed cardigan just looks like clean stockinette so i think i messed up. should i just start from the 2nd row and act like i didnt mess up or do i need to pull out the last 2 rows i did?

Do you have a link or name of the pattern?

It seems that what you’re hitting is the hemline/border. If you can attach a picture that would help though.

Welcome to KH!
When you finish the stockinette section, end with a purl row. That means that the purl row is the last row worked and you’ve turned to the next row which would ordinarily be a knit row. Instead of knitting that row the pattern wants you to work a purl row as a turning row. The next row is given as another purl row but it looks like a mistake to me. I would change this to a knit row and then continue with rows 1 and 2. That makes sense of the border for the Right Front.
If you’ve purled the 2 rows indicated in the pattern, tink back across that last row. Here’s an easy way that works for purls too.
