I-Cord and kitchener stitch

hello,
I’m just throwing together a smallish bag that I wil be felting as a gift for my mother (yes, as a matter of fact, it is a christmas gift). I am not following a pattern. I want an I-cord for a handle (kind of long), but I’m having trouble attaching the end to the bag.

I’ve also tried going up both sides, then joining with the kitchener stitch, but it looks horrendous. ack!

Does anyone have any ideas on what I need to do? :??

Thanks so much

Barb

You could use the applied I-cord technique to attach it to one side, knit it around and then graft it or knit it onto the other side.

Basically, that amounts to picking up 3, 4, or 5 stitches (depending on how many stitches you want in your I-cord) on the upper edge of one side, then go from there. If you haven’t yet bound off the the entire upper edge, you can use the last couple stitches to start the I-cord (if they’re in the place you want the I-cord to start…)

Hope this helps.
