I caved... first knitted soaker

http://www.curlypurly.com/pdf/soaker.pdf

I started knitting this last night… Rohan desperately needs a few woolen soakers for during the day whilst at home, as his PUL ones are just tooooo hot for his little bum…

Great pattern, and a really fast knit with Aran weight…

Okaaay… you’ve got to tell me, what’s a Soaker!!! A woolly undergarment for wee tots? Your choice of yarn looks awfully white!

A soaker goes over a cloth nappy to help keep bubs dry…

It’s ‘natural/cream’ actually… and it really doesn’t matter what colour it is as it goes under stuff…

wow… that looks like one well-written pattern! very detailed and helpful!

I have a friend who’s been wanting me to make her some soakers… maybe i’ll try this one after Christmas (she’s due with number 2 in January!).

Thanks! Oh and congrats on the little one!

-hh

hahaha, okay, so now can you tell us what that means? :teehee: In particular, what’s a “bub”?

A soaker goes over a cloth nappy to help keep bubs dry…

In American English:

A soaker (diaper cover) goes over a cloth diaper to help keep little baby bottoms dry.

I love how the OP calls baby bottoms, “bubs.”

Oh… bubs is another way of saying baby in Australia…

hehe

Aww. I’m glad your able to knit again!

For all us old f**** we used to have “rubber” pants that did the same thing! Nowadays, moms that use cloth diapers have these cool soakers the diapers fit right into and use velcro! No more diaper pins! My grandson wore them when he was a baby. How the world has changed!

Faye

What is PUL? That’s a great pattern!

I’d never heard of soakers till I joined KH. In “my day” as in Faye’s we used rubber pants if we weren’t using disposables. I used cloth and wish now that I had know about soakers. :teehee:

Lookin good Tia!

I’ve got one that needs to be seamed!

PULs are rubber pants, basically.
We cloth diaper, but DD has outgrown her old-skool flats (she’s in pocket-diapers now.) We used to use PULs and wool covers on her when she was itty bitty, but I never got around to knitting her one. I wasn’t that good yet. boo.

Your soaker is coming along fabulously - I’m bookmarking this pattern!

I use cloth diapers on my baby and we have gortex type ‘rubber pants’ that are waterproof yet breathable so her bum doesn’t get all sore.
Though now that I have seen this pattern, I may just give it a try!

Updated photos

I’ve put a K2P2 rib around the legs for a snugger fit…

Hang on baby, your soakers are cominnnnnggggggggg!

All finished

Will post a pic on his bum at his next change too

How cute! It looks so tiny! :teehee:

Innit cute???
