I can't decide . . . Denise Vs. Boye

 I’ve been reading all the posts comparing these interchangeable sets, and I’m still undecided! I’m using a pair of Addi Turbos now, and I love them  . Are the Boye needles close to the feel of an Addi? I’ve had circulars that catch the yarn where the cord and needle meet, and that drives me CRAZY, and I wasn’t happy using wood circs because they were not slippery enough. I also love the flexibility and smoothness in the Addi cord. There seems to be a lot of people who are happy with the Denises…HELP!

What do you guys think? I want to order myself a set for Mother’s Day
(I always buy myself the best presents  hehehe)

I can’t help you decide…I just got a set of the Boye’s as a gift and have never used the Denises. I personally like the feel and look of aluminum, which is why I prefer the Boyes.

Do you have an LYS that might carry the Denise needles? Then you can see what they are like. Local stores like Joann’s or Michaels carry the Boye, so they shouldn’t be too hard to find.

In my humble opinion, Boye needles are not like Addis, but neither are Denise needles. All three are different. Addis are great for those small sizes that Boye and Denise don’t come in. I like simplicity. I don’t care for the feel of metal needles (other than Addis) and I don’t care about colorful needles. I need lightweight needles. I don’t want to worry about having to tighten anything. I have been extraordinarily happy with Denise needles. If on the other hand knitting with colorful, metal needles is enjoyable to you, as it is for many people, then Boye is the way to go. I think that’s what it boils down to - being happy knitting.
I’m not sure that helped. You probably will be pleased whichever way you choose - I don’t think you can go wrong!

I have the Denise set and really like it…no catching as I experienced on an individual circular I purchased. About not having the smaller sizes…how often do you use those anyway? I guess it depends on what you knit most.

That said, I found a 40% off coupon for Michaels in the paper Sunday :happydance: So…instead of buying the size 8 doublepoints I needed for my sweater sleeves I bought the Boye set instead! I figure this will serve two purposes…I can learn to knit small rounds using two circular needles from Amy’s video (never mind that you really could use needles of 2 different sizes by putting the size you need on the right side and the “holders” on the left) and two, I can answer questions like this which I had when I was first trying to decide which one. If I get started on the sleeve today, I’ll try to comment more.

I have the Denise set, which I received for Christmas, and have been using those to knit my first “real” project, a baby sweater. So far, I really like the lightness of them, but I think I may be a knitter who knits too tightly and I have a hard time getting my stitches across the part of the needle where it joins. It’s kind of squared off, so I have to push my stitches up all of the time.

I did just purchase the Boye set yesterday, using the 40% off coupon at Michael’s. They sell them for $69.99 and I got $28 off. On certain holidays (like July 4), Michael’s occasionally will do a 50% coupon, but I don’t know if you want to wait that long. I haven’t had the chance to use the Boye’s yet, as I just got them, but I do want to knit something up on it, just to get the feel of it. I’ll post more when I can compare the two.

Where is everyone getting these 40% off coupons? I want one! :frowning: I have looked in the Sunday paper…guess I don’t look hard enough.

Anyway, I have Denises and I like them! Haven’t tried any others though.

I get a 40% off coupon in the mail with my Joann’s mailer every month. Sign up for their monthly newsletter. I’ve never found a Michaels 40% off coupon, but the Michael’s in my area will accept a Joann’s coupon.

Oooh, thanks! I’ll try that.

We get 40% coupons in every Sunday paper, in the JoAnn and Michael’s sale flyers. Also, if you join the JoAnn e-mail list, you will be bombarded with coupons, both printable for store use, and online coupons.

Thanks for all the great advice  . I am excitedly waiting for those of you who have both the Denise and Boye sets to compare and report!

I put my “review” in a seperate post. Hope it helps!
