[FONT=“Comic Sans MS”] Hi everyone! I am new to this website and forum and am so glad I have came across it. I am trying to knit a baby cardigan, specifically Jarol E6111 but I just cannot get the right side to ‘work’… Can you help??

So I have ribbed 10 rows and have 30 stitches on needle and pattern reads as follows:
1st row: knit 4, yfwd, Sl1K, K1, psso, k3, k2tog, yfwd, yrn and yon, k2tog, k7
2nd row: P8, p into back of front and double yrn of previous row, p20

I just keep ending up with too many stitches… In the first row when i bring the yfwd and SL1K then K1 i end up with 2stitches… I purl both of these… What am i doing wrong?! I keep ending up with 31 stitches…

I have done more ripping out in the past few days trying to get this right… Am 28 and losing the will… Please help :slight_smile:

Hi and welcome!
Check the rows that you’ve quoted. Row one only uses 20sts and ends with 20, not 30sts. Is there more to the row? (maybe knit 14sts to start and not knit 4?) Row 2 uses 30sts.
Even with row 1 as written, the yfwd and over the needle increases one st and the psso decreases one. Then the two k2togs decrease 2 and the yfwd, yrn, yon (a double yarn over) increases 2sts so you should end the row with the same number of sts that you started with.

You are absolutely right. I missed part of the pattern in the above post. However, i have now managed to get the stitches under control :yay: but the first part is driving me insane. So here goes with the bit i cannot get right: K4, yfwd, sl1K, k1, psso, k3, k2tog, yfwd, k9 etc… Next row purl… Following row K5, yfwd, sl1k, k1, psso, k1, k2tog, yfwd, k 10 etc, then purl For some reason where i have brought yarn forward, slipped one and knitted one, it is creating a horizontal stitch on right side of my pattern as it continues… I am unsure if i am explaining myself correctly… Can anyone help(or make sense of my post?) would a photo help?

I cast on 20 stitches and tried these directions and I’m getting a triangle with lace holes on each side of it and no stitches running across the front of the piece anywhere. Let me try explaining the directions in more detail:

Row 4: Knit 4 stitches, yarn over (just bring the yarn to the front between the needle tips and keep it there as you continue), (hold the yarn over to the top of your right hand needle somehow so it doesn’t go anywhere), slip a stitch as if to knit it (just slip the next stitch inserting the working needle as though you intended to knit the stitch, but just slip it over to the right hand needle), k1, then past the slipped stitch over the knit st (like you were binding off, being careful not to disturb the yarn over), k3, knit 2 together, yarn over, knit 9.

Purl a row.

Row 3: Knit 5, yarn over as before, slip one knitwise as before, k1, pass the slipped stitch over the knit stitch, k1, k2tog, yarn over, knit 10.

Yes, I think Judy has explained it very well. It’s possible that you’re bringing the slipped st over the yarn over (the yarn forward and then back over the right needle to k1). The yarn over should be to the right of the slipped stitch on the right needle. Try holding the yarn over in place with your right index finger as you k1 and pass slipped st over.

Ladies you are gems. Think i have it sorted now… Will post a picture of the finished piece in the next few days. So glad I have found this forum :grphug:
