I am really not sure what i am doing...but im having fun!

Hi everyone,
This is my first time on a knitting forum.
My friend at work is having a baby and so i have taught myself to knit (via utube). I am knitting a baby cardigan i think!

I am following a pattern I am at the point where i have seperated my knitting into three sections. Left, back and right.

The pattern says: Working 9 boarder stitches in pattern continue stickinette st stripe on left front. decrease 1 st at beginning of next 4 rows: p 1 row (92 st). break off put on holder.

So i worked the 9 stiches then i knit 1 row (less a stitch i did 2 together), p 1 row, k 1 row (less a stitch) p 1 row, k 1 row (less a stitch) p 1 row, k 1 row (less a stitch) p 1 row then i p a whole row on this row i didn’t keep the 9 boarder i just p them.

Is this correct? Should there be 9 rows in total. I just cant see it in my head how will this ever turn into a cardigan. I wish i had pictures!

Any help appreciated! thanks

This is so good that you’re having fun with the baby cardigan. I would interpret the pattern that you work the left front decreasing on each one of the next 4 rows, at the beginning of the knit rows and purl rows. Then purl one row.
You’re right that it doesn’t seem like enough rows for a cardigan front but the directions end with putting the sts on a holder so I suspect there is more to come.
I think it would help if you could post a link (or write out a link) to the patern and tell us the name of the pattern.
