You can get some good deals if you stick to the sale items. Be careful though of the other yarns. I checked a few against Joanns prices -

I agree, some of the stuff has funny “regular” prices. I have never paid $3 for dishcloth cotton. There are some neat $1 yarns though. I like that Patons “Anna”…what could you make with that?
