Hello fellow KHers!!!
On July 20, 21, and 22nd, the inaugural Midwest Folk and Fiber Fair is happening in Crystal Lake, Illinois (my hometown!).
There are several of us frequent KH blog thread posters that are planning on attending what hopes to be a very fun and successful event! After talking about it at some length in the blog fourm, we figured letting everyone know about it would make it even more fun & successful! :cheering:
If people are interested in attending, please take a look at their website. There are SEVERAL hotels in the area (C.L. is approximately 50 miles NW of Chicago, and about 30 minutes from O’Hare Airport and about an hour from Midway Airport). At the bottom of this post are just a few links to the reservation page of some of the hotels in Crystal Lake.
Now, as many members are already planning to attend, we thought a get together at the actual event would be really fun. :happydance: As the event draws closer, we can arrange a more solid time and place to meet (at the event). It’s being held at the Lakeside Legacy Arts Park, which I believe is generally an outdoor facility. I will scope it out a bit and see if there’s any distinguishing landmarks there that would be a meet up easy for all!
Make sure to take a look at the vendor list on the Fiber Fest website!! It is constantly growing (for you sock knitters, The Fold will be there…she is one of the very few Socks That Rock reseller!). Also, if you are into other crafts besides knitting, it looks as though there will be weaving, quilting, and spinning exhibits and vendors as well! :happydance:
Also keep in mind, there are many yarn shops in the Chicago area, so this would be a great opportunity for some road trips for you!
As updates become available, I will add them to this thread!
Some other towns between Crystal Lake and the tollway (which is how you’d have to get there from the airport) are Algonquin, Elgin, and West Dundee. All three of these towns also have hotels, so feel free to google hotels in those towns as well!
