Lion Brand Amazing Cable Vest L0634

I’m on Shape Shoulder section/ Sew shoulder seams.
??Sl remaining 3 sts from right front onto larger needle and work in St St until piece, when slightly stretched, reaches across back neck. Then neck Edging directions make no sense to me either. I’m so frustrated as I have vest from and back done and now I’m totally confused.

You’re almost at the finishing! Well done.
You have 3sts on hold from the left front and 3sts on hold from the right front. Now you’re going to join them together to form the neckband but in order to do that you need to knit more rows on the 3 held sts of the right front. Knit those sts in stockinette until they meet the 3 held sts of the left front when slightly stretched across the back neck.

Then the instructions that follow are for grafting the two edges together. You can do that graft or you can simply work a 3-needle bind off to join.
Here’s a video for slow-motion Kitchener graft.

I have 3sts on holder on right front of V-neck, followed by a group of sts that have been binded off. After the V-neck on the left I have the binded off sts followed by 3 sts on holder. I still don’t understand what to do. I’ve search for video help and can’t find any with V-necks using sts on holders.

The shoulders should by seamed to join the front and back at the shoulders. The 3 held sts should be at the neck edge of both the right front and the left front. It sounds like one set of the 3 held sts may be at the armhole edge and this isn’t correct.

The upper drawing shows the placement of the two sets of 3sts. The lower drawing shows how to join the two sets by knitting along the 3 right front sts until you can join them to the 3 left front sts.

The right and left shoulders should be mirror images of each other.

If salmonmac’s diagram doesn’t click for you, could you lay the front piece out flat, right side up, and take a photo for us?

Also, you could try laying out the front piece and comparing it to the pattern photo. Are the two legs of your centre cable flowing into the band on either side of the v-neck as in the photo?

Lovely vest!

I frogged previously, as my 3 sts are both on outside edges of front side. I’ll work on this tomorrow!

Let us know how it goes. I suspect that placing the 3 sts at the neck ege will help make it clearer.

I have fixed, so now my 3 sts are by top edge of V-neck. I inserted my large needle on right front into the 3 sts from left to right. I’m adding new yarn and I knit the 3 sts, then pick up stitches along the back neck area. Is this correct?

Thank you, Linda

Hello
I made a neck edge in a similar way recently.
You don’t pick up any new stitches along the back.
It feels a bit strange but just knit the 3 stitches, turn work the wrong side 3 sts, turn, work the right side 3 sts… and so on. Keep going until you have a long thin strip. This will join to the 3 stitches in the other side of the neck.
Have a look at your finishing or assembly instruction or possibly the following part of the neck band section, it probably says to sew the neck band across the back of the sweater.

When I did mine I made it roughly as long as I thought I needed and then began sewing it in to the back neck piece to make sure I didn’t make the strip too short or too long. You want some stretch and give in how it matches up with the back neck. Joining to the back neck can initially be a tacking stitch with a thin sewing yarn or embroidery yarn to just hold it in place if you want to be able to remove it and do the real seaming with your proper yarn afterwards.

When knitting it feels a bit pointless having just 3 stitches but that little edge will finish off the sweater very nicely.
