How would you create these bumpy stitches? Is there’s a particular stitch/ technique/ and/or way to do this??? Thanks!
I guess you could use randomly placed bobbles, but that scarf doesn’t look knitted to me
That’s what I was going to say…doesn’t look knitted to me either.
I was going to say it looked a bit like shibori knitting to me. Shibori is a Japanese form of shape-resist dying (kinda like tye-dying), but there are several artisans who create a felted fabric using the technique. The Fall 2005 Interweave Knits has a feature article on it.
Am I glad you explained that one - I thought it was diseased! :??
Whatever it is - Good Luck with it.

Limey
i think that it could be done by knitting with a yarn that has texture to it (one of the cascade yarns comes to mind) or a yarn that has some non-feltable fiber mixed in.
It’s definitely knitted. It is from an English knit-wear designer (much expensive! lol) … I thought maybe yarn was wrapped around stitches? or??? maybe the colored parts were embroidered on after? ??? I dunno. Thanks FiberGirl for the info about Shibori knitting… i’ll look that up!
(p.s. don’t you LOVE him
(Christian Bale)? …
… )
I just came across this tutorial on shibori so I thought I’d add it to this thread.
That’s just freaky…IMHO. :teehee:
That’s neat! Looks like bobbles done in an easier way. :teehee:
I’ve been wanting to give shibori knitting a try, it really seems to be very easy and looks like lots of fun. :cheering:
OMG I love the little hedgehog. He is SO CUTE!
It looks as though it was knitted with an exaggerated thick-and-thin yarn such as Colinette Point 5. and Madras, by an Italian maker whose name I can’t remember. The thin bits are spun very tightly and the thick bits not at all; also, the colors are variegated. You get lots of variety and texture with little work.
