How to stop scarf from stretching

I am slipping the first stitch in hopes that my small scarf would stop stretching lenght wise once it is worn. It is not really helping. Do you have any other tips to help stop this from happening?

Thanks,

Rickell

There will likely always be some stretching on a scarf, seeing that it hangs a lot and gravity will pull it down. However if you firm up your knitting a bit by using a smaller needle, it should help. Loose knitting will always stretch much more than tighter knitting. Just don’t get too tight or it will not be soft.

Also, knit it a bit shorter than you want the scarf to end up.

If you can crochet, and the stretch is really bothering you, you can run a row of single crochet up each edge. It’s easy when you’ve slipped the first stitch all the way up. Of course, you don’t HAVE to stop at single crochet…I have a lot of knitted stuff with shell borders or whatever.

Slipping the first stitch gives you a nice edge, but it doesn’t do anything for stretching.

THanks to all who responded. This is such a GREAT community!
