How to sew lace edge onto blanket

I knit a little preemie blanket for the Compassionate Knitting Project. I thought it looked a little plain, so I’m making this lace edging to sew around the edges of it (I didn’t use this blanket pattern, only the lace border). After finishing the lace border, the instructions say to:

With large-eyed blunt needle, sew lace to blanket, gathering 3” [7.6 cm] of lace at the corners. Join ends of edging. Weave in ends

I’ve not had alot of experience sewing things together yet. Is there a best method of doing this for this type project? :??

You probably can use edge to edge seaming for the lace, but I do have a good way to gather the lace at the corners.

Weave a piece of yarn through that section, up and down–not connected to anything, and then bunch your lace on the yarn–kind of like a drawstring. If that doesn’t keep it held you can run two parallel pieces and bunch up your knitting on them. After you sew the edge on you can take out the extra strands.

Thanks, Ingrid. I think it demonstrates that (edge to edge) in the SNB book, which I have. I’ll take a looksie. :smiley:

Also, what a great tip for handling those corners. I’d have never thought of doing that! :thumbsup:
