I tried kind of wrong side sewing the hood with yarn & a yarn needle- it looks terrible.
It looks like the kitchener stitch & three needle bind off have the stitches going in the right direction- but the stitches are not live as this is the cast-on edge.
I’d suggest looking here at the section on ‘Horizontal seams’ and see if that helps. Sounds like the CO edge could be worked similar to a BO shoulder edges.
ETA: had you done a prov CO you could’ve done 3-ndl BO no problem. If you’re feeling daring you could snip your CO edge and unravel that row st by st so you’ll have live sts. It’s not difficult but perhaps something you don’t want to tackle if not comfortable.
I am sure I’ll be knitting this pattern again- and will do a provisional cast-on & 3 needle bind off next time. I am nervous about unraveling the cast on & trying it now though! This is my first fitted project so I have never tried many of the techniques used (first time using stitch markers, even!) I haven’t tried to knit the sleeves yet either!
When you pick up for the sleeves, you will probably find that you will need to add more stitches than the pattern says. That is a very common note on Ravelry. I think I had to pick up about 4 extra stitches.
Thanks for the note- I looked this up on Ravelry too- how great to have more info before I even try ! I need to start looking up all projects there first- lots of help there!!
Of course I have never picked up stitches before either- and I will need to order some size 7 DPN’s first. I can’t find them anywhere locally.
Trying to talk the family into the Harmony DPN set for Mother’s Day…
I just knitted that cardigan and wondered how to seam the hood too. I ended up picking up stitches all the way along each cast on edge and then doing a 3-needle bind off. I don’t know if that was the right way to do it or not, but it worked for me, lol.
If I ever make the cardigan again, I will definitely need to learn how to do the provisional cast on!
I am making a similar P&S top down hooded sweater (but MY sized) and in order to NOT have to seam the hood, I used the figure 8 cast on from Silvers Sock tutorial, then instead of going around and around, I went from one edge, across the sides, around the back to the other edge on the RS, then turned and did the same back on the WS.
after the 4th row, it was perfect (for me) then I was able to see that the spider would fit in well
