How to pick up stitches on neckline to add a collar

Hello,

I would like to know how to pickup sts on neckline, shoulder and L&R front of sweater so I could knit on a collar. I would like to not have a ridge after adding or picking up sts. However,I could live with it (as long as it is in the back (RS).

You would want the ridge on the WS or inside of the sweater. There’s a video on picking up stitches on the Tips page.

Once I put a split collar on a crewneck sweater, that is, a collar that was open in the front like the collar on a blouse. For that I wanted the collar to have a soft roll from the attachment at the neck to the outer edge of the collar and so I picked up sts on the [U]inside[/U] of the neckband. The ridge was covered by the collar and I was happy with the result. But in general, as Suzeeq says, pick up on the outside.
