How to make armholes

Hi! I’m making a camisole and trying to do so with no pattern just to see if it can be done.

I got to the arm hole and I realized I have no idea how to measure and make up that portion.

The easy thing would be to just bind off all the stitches and then add straps but I was hoping for something that is more curved. Is there a formula for this sort of thing? Thanks!

Bind off about 2" worth of stitches on 2 row (rs/ws) and on the next RS row, dec 1 st at each edge. You may want to repeat that a couple more times. Then knit straight for 7-8", depending on how deep you want the armholes to be. BO. If you want a neckline curve, read all the threads for how to do that, or find a similar pattern and use the shaping instructions for it.

Great! I was hoping there was a formula of some sort. The neckline will be squarish so I will just bind of most then bind of a stitch on both sides of the next row and mirror that on the back.

Looks like I made the bind offs on my camisole twice as large as they needed to be.
