How to maintain pattern while decreasing stitches

so, i’m knitting this pair of vintage stockings.
http://www.vintagepurls.net.nz/Downloads/StitchcraftLaceStockings.pdf

so, it says to cast on 111 stitches, and the first 10 rows are worked in multiples of 10+1 sts(all good). however, after decrease round (decreasing 2 stitches = 109 sts) it says to work the same rows. (see rows below). So, how am i supposed to work those rows when its not a multiple of 10+1 sts anymore? on the last * repeat, do I just not do the last 2 stitches?

IST ROW: k. 1, * p. 1, k. 1, p. 5, k. 1, p.1, k. 1; repeat from * to end.
2ND ROW: p. 1, k. 1, * p. 1, k. 5, (p. 1, k. 1) twice, repeat from * to last 9 sts., p. 1, k. 5, p. 1, k. 1, p. 1.

thanks!!

Is it decreased at both ends, or one end?

both ends.

Are you doing rows or rounds (you ref both)? Looks like rows (are they seamed). Haven’t looked at patt (didn’t open on my slow DU) but after the decs your st count may no longer be the orig multiple so you’ll need to work the pattern as it appears. Looks to be 1/1 rib with a 5 st band in the middle. K the Ks, and P the Ps to maintain the integrity of the rib. Perhaps someone familiar with sock making will offer insight.

the pattern is actually worked in rows flat and then seamed. i’m doing a conversion to make it in the round - however the problem of what to do with the pattern when I don’t have enough stitches applies to both.

so, it seems that each time i do a decrease row, i’ll just shave off the first and last stitch of the pattern so that the seam in the back of the sock will be partial patterns - but keeping the pattern still vertically aligned the whole time. does that sound right?

I’d work the dec in one st from the selv so you have a clear st for seaming. As you dec, all the sts between the decs will remain in the rib pattern regardless of how many. Yes, keep everything aligned vertically. The decs done by the seam will be similar to a sleeve where part of the patt ‘disappears.’
