How to line a toque?

Hi, I made a toque for my boyfriend which is apparently too itchy for him to wear comfortably. I’d like to line it (with fleece?), but can’t find out any information on how to so. It’s a ribbed (2k2p) cap with a two inch cuff. It’s the ribbing that’s giving me a problem, I’m just not sure how I would attach something on the inside and not mutate it given the stretch.

Any ideas on how to make this hat wearable would be very much appreciated.

Thanks,
Ruth

Hmmm…I’m not sure either. The main problem I can see with lining is it would lose the stretchiness of the ribbing.

Is it necessary to line the whole thing? I have been sewing in a 4-5 inch (depending on size of hat) band of microfleece starting the bottom inside edge of hats. No itchies on the forehead or ears and keeps the wind out. It is sewn in loosely by hand. Using microfleece keeps the bulkiness to a minimum.
