How to Knit Two Colors in Small Numbers

Hi! I’m knitting a scarf for my boyfriend, and I want to do the Batman logo in his scarf. I’ve found a pattern to follow: here.

The problem I’m having is that I’ve never really knit such a complex pattern. So far, I’ve been trying to knit it by doing two copies of each row and switching yarn as if adding on a new strand. At this point, I can’t tell if it’s working because my scarf is covered in bows where I’ve had to cut off and tie the colors so it doesn’t fall off.

There must be a better way of doing this, but I’m still somewhat a beginner and I don’t know. Can someone help?

There is a better way…it’s called intarsia. Intarsia is knitting blocks of color or design. You need separate strands for each section of color.
