I’m really new to knitting and want to make a bracelet for my wife similar to the attached picture (hope it shows up okay) - I want mine to be knit on both sides though, no cloth. How would I cast on to a metal ring like this? Thank you!!
Use a crochet hook and do a provisional cast on. I think there’s a video on KH!
Hmmm, not sure this will work cause you’ve got to keep the working yarn at the back, but maybe… You may have to use a blunt needle, threaded with the yarn and do a buttonhole stitch to begin, then pick up with your knitting needle.
I would do a double crochet for each stitch that you need to cast on. But that would just be my un-educated guess!
Can you just knit it normally and sew it onto the ring with the same yarn?

I think I would need to do some extra research for the first 2 responses… I’m trying to get it done by Mother’s day so I’ve got a little time… I’ll check out both of those options.
But knitting it normally and then sewing it onto the ring might be the easiest approach… Again, I’m really new at this! Would I just sew with one continuous piece from one end to the other and then weave the end into the bracelet? Sorry, that’s probably a really dumb question.

Not dumb at all. That’s how I would do it. If you really WANT to cast on, you could pull a loop through the ring to the back, one to the front, slip one over the other–as many as you need. However, I’d be inclined to just leave a long end hanging to sew on the beginning and, when you cast off, a nice long end to sew with there.

Ok, here’s an update. I decided to get a clasp to go on the bottom (back?) of the bracelet. I’m attaching a picture of what the clasp looks like.
so what I have done so far is cast on to each loop on the clasp, then knit a couple of rows, increase, knit 2 rows then increase - so i ended up with eight stitches by the time i got to the ring. Then I continued to knit onto the ring (pretty tricky!!) so now i have one row knit onto the ring. That is where I want to stop. I don’t think i can bind off though because wouldn’t that take it off the ring? How do i end this side? What i have is the ring with one row knit onto it and my working yarn hanging off of it (I hope I’m describing this okay…)
Should I just cut my working yarn now to like 4 inches and then weave it in to the bracelet?

The last thing I need to do is weave in the end pieces…
Anyone know what I should do with the end piece by the washer? i can’t Bind off… should I tie a little knot and weave the knot in?
I know this looks a little sloppy, but hey, it was my second knitting project
If you tie a small discreet knot then weave in the end it should be okay. It looks great!

I used a 5/8 inch lock washer - you can get them at any hardware store (I got mine at Home Depot - 3 for $.98)
I’m sure you could use any kind of yarn for it, but I used a black 48 lb hemp cord from Michaels.
