Hi im very new to knitting and i decided to want to make a patch work quilt with different patterns on the squares

for those who may not be able to see that it says cast on 38 stitches which ive done, knit 6 on rs then purl 6 on wrong side :whoosh:
i understand what knit on rs/purl on ws means i just dont understand how to do it! i cant find any steps that show you exactly how, and with a confusing pattern im just stuck!
so any help would be Grately appreciated!! thanks

It doesn’t say anything about RS and WS that I can see. Not sure where you’re getting that. Enlighten me if I’m missing it. Otherwise just keep track of what row you’re on so you remember after setting it down.
You repeat whatever is between the asterisks (*) so…
[B]Row 1 - *K6, p6; rep from * to end [/B]
That means knit 6 stitches, purl 6 stitches, knit 6 stitches, purl 6 stitches, etc all the way across.
Row 2 is the same as row 1.
thanks for replying it says about the rs/ws at the bottom of the page where you can see the stitch key
Oh okay, that’s for the chart. If you are following the chart you have to know which side you’re on I guess. Does that help?
It would probably be best if you ignored the chart for now and just followed the written instructions until you see what’s going on. It’s not that complicated, but you might not see what they mean until you get a pattern repeat done. Don’t worry about that “K on RS, P on WS” at all for now. You’ll see it. The written instructions account for that for you.
If you want to look at a sample, pick up a T-shirt, hold it right side toward you, and look at the stitches. (A magnifying glass is handy.) That’s the front of stockinette stitch. Turn it around. See how it all looks purled? That’s what happens if you knit when working the right side of your work, then purl when you turn around. If you WANT the purls to show on the right side, you must purl them when you work with the front of the piece toward you, then knit them when you are working on the back. Once you get used to the way the stitches look, you’ll find following the charts to be no problem at all.
