How to join on circular kneedles

Hello! It has been a long time since I knitted. I’m a lefty and was taught to do it right handed (no one knew the continental back then) so it was always difficult. I’m picking it up again since my Mom sent me some fun fur and I would like to make a tube. (I’m an expat living in the Philippines). Okay, enough background  The pattern I found has me using circular kneedles. The very first instruction says to cast on 60 stitches and then join. For the life of me, I can’t figure out how to join, I thought I just started knitting and it would go around but instead it makes a flat piece y’all have mentioned. So, please, how do I join to make a tube?

Have your watched the circular needle video? If not, you should. Here is a good article about circular needles.

Thanx Jessi! I did watch the other, but never heard her say anything about joining. Perhaps I missed it. I did look up your suggestion and that takes care of my problem. Now I can get to work! :XX:
