How to join cast on and cast off ends?

Hi, it’s probably a no brainer for most people here, I’ve searched a little and watched a few videos but haven’t found specifically ‘cast on’ and ‘cast off’ ends.

I work and study a lot of hours per week and really only have limited time per night in which I have been relaxing and teaching myself to knit. My issue is that I’ve knitted a nice little rectangle, which I now want to join the cast on and cast off ends, to create a ‘tube’ then I’ll close one end of the tube and make a beanie for my kids.

I don’t know how to do any of the things I mentioned, but for the purpose of this post I need to find out how to join the ends, if anyone could help me with this or even just point me in the right direction to a video, I would be immensely appreciative.

Thanks in advance and I’ll check back in tomorrow night. In about 24 hours time from this post.

Peace, freebs

I’d go with Mattress stitch. It will leave a seam on the inside, but will look wonderful on the outside.

There is video on mattress stitch here, but you’ll pick up one stitch from each edge rather than one bar from each edge.

Check out this info on horiz seaming.
