How to interpret the minuet shawl pattern. Please help!

I’m trying to make this Minuet Shawl found here http://www.freevintageknitting.com/shawls/minuet-shawl-pattern.html

What does this mean?

17th Row: K 36, * increase 1 st in next st, K 17, repeat from * 5 times, increase 1 st in next st, K 36.

25th Row: K across row, increasing 7 sts and keeping increases in line with previous increases.
Repeat last 8 rows twice.

I can’t understand how to increase using this instructions.
Any help will be appreciated. Thank you.

Hazel

When they say “increase in the next stitch” they often mean to use KFB which means to knit into the front and back of the stitch making two stitches. If you don’t know how to do that go to the free videos at the top of the page and look at the increases. Well…here’s the link.
