Hi, I’m new to this site. I found it while trying to find a pattern for a bikini bathing suit. I haven’t found an easy one yet, and I am not very experienced. So I’m making it up as I go along. I realized though, that I don’t know how to increase while i’m purling. i’m knitting the bathing suit in stockinette, so I would really appreciate some advice on 1. a cute bathing suit pattern and 2. how to increase while purling. Thanks!
How to increase when purling
I can’t help you with the pattern but did you check out the increase videos here? there are instructions for doing it on the purl side too!
I’m new here and I have a question somewhat related to this one. I have watched all of the make/increase videos, unfortunately I STILL have no idea which one to use, for instance if a pattern says k7, inc, k4, inc…etc does it matter which method (front/back) you use if it’s in the middle of the row???
Thank you!
I usually use the kfb (knit front and back) when it doesn’t specify an increase. Each one looks a little different so you do want to be consistent and choose one that works with the pattern.
I think in the case where you describe something like Knit 7, inc, Knit 4, inc., etc, it is reeeally hard to know which one to do. Obviously a knit into front and back uses a stitch. A “make one” uses the bar between stitches so it doesn’t use one of the stitches currently on the left needle. When it’s specifying how many stitches to knit in between increases, you need to make sure you have enough stitches on the needle to complete the instructions and I would tend to use a “make one” increase in the instance you describe.
