How to increase pattern size?

Hello all,
I am a beginner knitter and I am trying to figure out how to make the pattern I have for a hat bigger. I made a hat already with this pattern but it is so small that it fits my daughter. Now my mom wants the same hat but I do not know how to make it bigger. I calls for casting on 64 stitches so do I just increase that number? Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks

Whether or not you can cast on more stitches, and how many, kind of depends on the pattern. Do you have a link to it?

Also, you might be able to get away with just going up a couple of needles size to make it bigger.

Without seeing the pattern, it’s hard to say just how many stitches you need to increase.

One way to easily increase the size of a pattern is to use thicker yarn and larger needles. That automatically increases the size.

If it’s a simple pattern–one without a design in the knitting, then you can measure how many stitches per inch you got with the smaller hat. Once you know that figure, you can use it to determine how many stitches to cast on for a larger one.
