I see that knitters wrap the yarn around their fingers on the left hand but I learned how to know without doing that…I just keep it loose and twist it around as needed. Is this going to cause me major problems? The other way feels wierd to me. Do I have to change my ways?

Not necessarily, that just comes with practice too.
