How to graft 2 side pieces together

Am awful at sewing my dear old mum always finished off for me, can manage passable graft on 2 bind off edges but now I have to graft 2 side edges and 2 make it worse one side has 6 rows garter stitch at the end and the other all ss.
Got the pattern off ravelry the pitty perfect dog sweater knitted in lion brand wool ease thick and quick
.

Amazingly, there’s a very nice video for seaming garter to stockinette.

It’s going to be an adorable sweater!

Did me best with seams went try it on the old girl disaster, hadn’t left gap for legs fixed that. Back and vest to long that’s fixable haven’t cast off yet.
Big problem legs tight at top of leg save undoing whole sweater could I cut knitting and try sew up.

Are you cutting along a column of rows or across a line of sts in a single row?
If up a column of sts, you could cut the knitting but it’s not for the faint of heart. This is called a steek. It works best with wool yarn. Maybe you can cut and then sew down the edges on each side to keep them from unraveling.

Since this is top down, most of the shaping for the neck and chest have already been done. The best solution is to rip back (however painful this is) to the leg openings and extend them for however many rows you need.

Thanks, do you mean undo vest and back until I get back 2 collar? Think the bit needs altering is where I join in round and start vest I might have misinterpreted pattern it had 2 rounds 1 round ssk mil then knit across 2 marker m1r then k2tog only working on 8 St’s between markers 2nd round knit across I have 6 rounds in all. Pattern does say work fewer repeats for smaller breeds.
I could do with about 2 or 3 rows shorter as that’s where it’s digging in her leg but I don’t want lose extra stitches on the actual vest or will be tight on body.
Hope this makes sense got myself all stressed sorry

I think I see. I was hoping you could just extend the leg opening at the back end rather than the chest. If you need 2 rows shorter in the chest then you’ll have to go back to that point.
This project shows a size small but you may need a chest that isn’t even that deep.

If your dog will tolerate it, keep trying it on as much as you can to be sure of the measurements.

Thanks the pic helps that leg opening loose mine stretched to the limit on the leg digging in, perhaps I should only do 3 rounds not 6 that way would only have 12 stitches on vest instead of 14 or might be better with 10 and increase the extra stitches towards middle of body.
Losing my nerve with knitting no problems knitting for myself but jinxed knitti g for others.

Knitting a dog sweater isn’t an easy project. There are such a variety of shapes and sizes that you do need to tailor the sweater to your dog. Since you’ve come so far with this one (the beginning seems like the most difficult) it’s worth making a try at the modifications to the chest and leg openings. You can do this and your dog will love the sweater I’m sure!

Thanks will have a break and try again if it goes wrong at least she’ll have a lovely hood!
