How to from a penguin jumper pattern

Hi there

I’m knitting a jumper for a penguin. I’m stuck on this row: K2 P2 and inc. 8 sts. evenly across this row.

Can anyone tell me how to do it. Which stitches do i inc?

Increase evenly means to distribute your increases across the row approximately equally spaced. They don’t have to be exactly spaced but just not bunched up in one area.
How many sts across the row? Is it k2p2 all the way across?

You start with 50 st. It just says k2 p2 rib whilst you inc 12st evenly across the row. So which stitches should I do it on?

Yes, that’s the pattern I’m using.

I really don’t know the best way to space and incorporate the increases into the pattern. Fortunately, a penguin won’t be too picky, I think. Someone will be able to give you good direction soon, I’m sure. I saw this on FB and am thinking of doing some.

I saw it on my FB, too. If you look at Grumpy Grandma’s link, farther down it says that the penguin website said doesn’t need anymore sweaters but is accepting them to resale to raise money. I would email the organization directly before you go through all that hard work and spend money on postage. And btw, sweaters are called “jumpers” in England and Australia.

Thanks for pointing that out, I had seen it but forgot. I fear my knitting isn’t good enough to raise any money for them so I’ll continue putting this on hold. When they do need them and if I become aware again, I plan to work them in the round. I wonder why it’s making the rounds on FB when they don’t currently need more. :?? I tried to find where they talk about fiber (is acrylic OK?) but didn’t find anything about it. Now I’m thinking about a chihuahua sweater that looks like a penguin. Oy.

Thanks for all the good information on the penguins.
For the increases in ribbing, you can increase on the purl sts and it will be less obvious. So for the 50sts, increase 12sts evenly. you would increase about every 4sts e.g. k2, p1, increase in the next purl st and continue.

You know, those would be cute sweaters for a child’s teddy bear. I know a man who crochets red and green vests for teddy bears he picks up at thrift stores. He sells the bears with vests at flea markets at Christmas time for some extra cash.
