How to flatten after finishing? Iron?

Hi all,

Just finished a four yarn afghan with Homespun. What do you do to flatten out the edges that want to curl under? Do you iron through a towel? Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks.

No, don’t, at least not with a really hot iron, and you don’t even touch it to the cloth. You can steam it, either with a steam iron or through a wet cloth. If it’s a stockinette stitch, it might not uncurl unless you put a border on.

What she’s talking about is called blocking. Stockinette will always curl…unless you have a thick border around it. An iron can melt the yarn.

Don’t iron the yarn it will melt and might catch fire!!!

It won’t catch on fire, it will only melt if it gets too hot. Even with an open flame it just melts.

If you have a border on it , then block it or steam it .
If the blanket is knitted all in stocking stitch the i agree with the other ladies , that you may need to put a border on it .
