Something went very wrong in my knitting and I accidentally dropped two stitches all the way to the bottom, so that even the cast off loop is gone. Does anyone know how to fix this? I used the long tail cast on and these two stitches were supposed to be purls all the way to the top (I’m ribbing). There’s a picture attached if it helps. Thanks!
There are ways to fix dropped stitches, but it won’t work when you don’t even have the bottom loop. Even then you don’t want to have to go more than 3-4 rows. I suggest frogging it and restarting. Sorry.
I found a video for recasting the stitch: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jImFC4yxXgc Do you think it’s possible to combine this with the method of picking up stitches several rows back?
I know only one way to find out if fixing the dropped CO st would work in this case. Try it. If it works, wonderful, and if not then you can still frog and start over. If it works for you, let know, OK?
It doesn’t look like you’ve gone very far so personally I’d probably just frog and start over. Since you don’t have much to lose though give it a try!
So after over an hour of playing around with my knitting, I figured out how to fix it! You simply have to follow the tutorial to re-cast on the yarn, and then follow standard procedure to pick up the dropped stitches. The trick is to understand which strand is which for the cast on.
Cool!
Thanks for the link and letting us know how it worked out for you. I’ll have to try that next time it happens to me. If you have to do it again it shouldn’t take nearly so long.
That’s what’s so great about KH. We all learn from each other.
Excellent!
I don’t see why not, szhao. Once the cast on stitch is recreated, the rest of the stitches could be latched up with a hook. Great video, and thanks for sharing!
I’m so glad it worked for you!
