How to figure out how much yarn is needed - HELP

I am knitting a shrug and it calls for Encore Worsted (100g) and 4 is needed for this project. So I bought Cyprus Mohair 50g so how do you figure how many skeins of yarn would I need. The yarn shop is out so I am also searching the web to find out where I can buy more.

If you need more information let me know. I’m so lost.

Thank you

Hmmm…they say, if you are knitting a 10-inch row, you should expect to need roughly 30 inches of yarn…I knit a little looser, so I usually find that I need a bit more than 3x - usually 3.5x for worsted yarn on size 9-10 needles. Of course, if you are knitting with lace weight yarn on size 3 needles, you are going to need a lot less than 3x the row length per every row. So if your pattern is fairly straightforward in regards to the amount of rows, just knit one row to see how wide it is, multiply the length by 3-3.5 (or whatever amount of yarn you end up needing for the test row), and then multiply by the total # of rows you’ll need. The yarn packaging should tell you how many yards/meters per ball or skein, so adjust the number of skeins you need accordingly.

Isn’t there information available to suggest how many yards is in 100g of the Encore?

Here’s a calculator that might be helpful. I think it assumes you have the same gauge; if you don’t, there’s also a calculator on the same site for estimating new yardage with a different gauge. You’ll need specs from both yarns either way. Check out yarndex.com if you don’t have the labels.

Thank you so very much for your input it sure has been helpful to me.
