What if you’re so close to the end of a project and then — ugh — you run out of yarn? All you can do is hop over to the yarn store and cross your fingers that the color isn’t discontinued.
Well, for one thing I always buy an extra skein of yarn. A pattern might say how much yarn it takes, but that’s how much it took the designer and you might knit differently than she does.
Ways to handle it depend on what it is… Here’s a few-
- Use a contrasting color for the last few rows
- Frog several rows and then bind off making the item a little shorter.
- I know people who weigh the amount of yarn it takes for a row then keep track of weight at the end so they know when to bind off.
