My wife has complained that the buttons on the 1950s cardigan I knitted her come undone because the buttonholes are too big. How do I reduce their size without distracting from the overall effect, where neatness is important? The buttonholes are worked in the crocheted edge, which I really don’t want to have to redo!
Such a perfectly lovely cardigan. I sometimes close up buttonholes with one or two sewing sts at a corner. The thread is all but invisible and the ends can even be woven into the knitting to you don’t see them sticking out. I suppose you could use a strand of yarn but the sewing thread works so neatly that I’ve never tried it.
