How to cast on for a steek (two colours)

I can’t seem to find a tutorial for casting on a steek in two colours. Can anyone point me to one, or describe how it’s done?

I understand what to cast on, how many stitches etc., but it’s the actual casting on with two colours over the gap that I am struggling with.
I did find one video on Virtual Yarns (Alice Starmore), but I just can’t seem to follow it. I’m sure it’s an excellent demonstration and I’m just tired.

Any others out there, or books I could track down at the library?

P.S. I’m doing a front neckline steek.

I did find a thread on Ravelry that is helpful, but my brain hasn’t quite grasped it yet:

Answered my own question: Did a longtail cast-on using the two threads that are already there!

This is what the Alice Starmore tutorial showed, but I didn’t quite grasp it until I read the Ravelry thread and tried out a few of the options mentioned.

Good to know and always pleasing to be able to answer your own question. Alice Starmore is certainly a knowledgeable reference.
