I’ve just started knitting recently and have been loving it so far!
I’m sorry if this is a really basic question, but I came across a pattern that says to cast on one stitch and I’m not sure how I would do that. Would this mean that I only start with a slip knot? If it said to cast on two I would start with a slip knot and cast on one more, but I’m not sure when it comes to casting on one.
Thanks for reading!
I would assume you start with just a slip knot then start work on row 2. What are you making? The cast on 1 to start a project is unusual!
Oh, wow that was fast!
That’s what I was thinking too…
I’m making animal ears to attach to beanies!
It begins with a cast on one and goes into row 1 with
Row 1: k1fb (2 sts)
Row 2: k1fb, k1fb (4 sts)
They cast on one first so the tip will be pointy. Are you making ears for a kitty hat?
Yes! So just to be sure, the cast on one would just be a slip knot? I couldn’t find anything else for a cast on one…
That’s right, you’ll immediately be making 2 stitches out of one, since the next step is an increase.
I went ahead and did that. Thanks for the help everyone!
